"To those leaning on the sustaining infinite . . . ."

Mankind is going through a period of almost unprecedented turmoil. For decades, millions of otherwise good people have stood witness with bovine tranquility to humanity's sating of itself on greed, depravity, salacious pleasures, violence, cruelty, hatred, rape, murder, and anything that provided instant gratification. Now the tab, with its crushing gratuity added, has arrived at the table of men and nations. And few of us, perhaps, have hands that are wholly clean. The idol of the great deity Geegaw, once so devoutly worshipped, today stands in silent and sullen reproach, and the same venal politicians who helped create the crisis are being called on to alleviate the results of some of their own corruption.

If ever there were a time to heed the command of James 4:8, this is it: "Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you." To make Sarah F. Adams' wonderful words (hymns 192/93) a constant companion isn't a bad idea either. Mrs. Eddy advises us in "Retrospection" (70: 18-19): "Each individual must fill his own niche in time and eternity." To undertake this duty would obviously provide every one of us with full-time employment, with guaranteed overtime, and help lift our troubled thoughts above the unholy spectacle unfolding before us. As we purge our thoughts of every insidious particle of error hiding there we not only bring healing Truth to our own experience, but to the Church and world as well. A consciousness spiritualized is the reign of God made manifest.

Really, really well done! So very timely and how we need words like these. Everything you post is so worth reading and thinking about. A very healing blog--if we'll heed what you bring out.
Love the way you bring out the worshipping of mere trinkets, geegaws--worthless stuff in so many instances. Humanity is reaping what it has sown, and certainly needs to turn to God as never before.
Thanks for this inspiring blog!

Love the title you've chosen for this excellent entry. I recall the first time I opened "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy and read those words. What a comfort they were. And still are. For those unacquainted with Christian Science and this book, I'll quote it in full. "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings."
This blog is certainly a blessing to your readers.

Very fine entry on a most important subject. You are right. Too many of us, I fear, have stood by mute while our fellow beings have suffered, and now, as you point out, the bill is coming due. I do believe this world turmoil will lead some to consider a higher power, and hopefully make them realize they need to re-order their priorities.
Thanks, thanks!

Inspiring entry, as always. You give your readers a lot to ponder, and statements that may well lead them to a better, more consecrated life.
You're doing a good job!

Well done, my friend. Oh, if only people (myself included) had been paying more attention to our Wayshower's teachings, and less to consuming, how much better we would be. As Jesus points out, the measure we mete shall be measured to us again. And oh boy, is it being, to millions.

Thanks for an arresting blog post. I am actually quite optimistic that, despite the turmoil right now, much correction is going to take place, and at least a small number of people will get back to what matters--having God in their lives.
Keep blogging.

Aren't we grateful to God for giving us the teachings of Christian Science that encourage us to think of Him as an everpresent help in all kinds of trouble. Truly does He sustain those who rely on Him.
Thanks much,

How right you are, blogger. This is the time to draw closer to God, to learn what Christ showed us that our loving Father has the solution for all life's problems.
A very helpful entry.

Such a well done website. Really appreciate your using your considerable talent to uplift, inform, and stir us to greater prayerful effort on mankind's behalf. Oh, how this is needed right now!

Your desire to help us out here think more deeply about leaning on God, and taking up our responsibility to pray about world problems, is so commendable. And I am grateful for what you are doing!

Thanks, blogger. There is no doubt God is going to be the only way out for millions of people. And whether desperation will make them turn in His direction, we don't know. But the opportunities to do this ourselves, and inspire others, is upon us. God help us do the best metaphysical work we know how to do!

Thanks for this blog post. These words from the discoverer and founder of our religion seems so pertinent to your topic. Mrs. Eddy writes in her message to her Church, for 1901: "Godliness or Christianity is a human necessity: man cannot live without it; he has no intelligence, health, hope, nor happiness without godliness."
I trust that some people are going to be driven to discover this, and will find the blessings that come from leaning on God.

What an invaluable thing it is to be learning through the study of Christian Science to turn to God for answers/health/supply--you name it. He truly is an everpresent help to His children.
Thanks!
